Causes of TMJ/TMD disorders
Many
times there are a combination of factors that cause TMJ/TMD.
Within the complex of the head and neck a group of nerves, muscles and
skeletal conditions get "out of sync". This physiologic disharmony
results in many signs and symptoms discovered in the next section. This can tire
and fatigue muscles and create painful spasms, causing even more
pain. Repeated muscle problems may affect the joints, resulting in
tissue damage, muscle tenderness, and more spasm, perpetuating a cycle
of pain.
